 Helping Hands

Ministry

Helping Hands is a group of women dedicated to helping others.  Current recipients include the residents of two nursing homes, students at a local school and Haley House (a group that provides assistance to injured military personnel).   Funds for these outreach efforts are earned as a result of our bake sales, which are held during the Spring and Winter seasons.  Members of Helping Hands donate the baking ingredients, do the baking, set-up and selling of items.  All money earned from these bake sales is used to support the commitment by Helping Hands.

Nursing Home Projects

Helping Hands enriches the lives of residents in two area nursing homes.  These residents have no family or friends to remember them on their birthdays or holidays.  The group has varied projects, which include making lap quilts or other appropriate items as birthday gifts, and providing snack items or personal toiletries for holiday occasions throughout the year.

One of their first visits to Delta Health Care about 10 years ago.
They presented quilts to the residents celebrating their birthdays that month.

Dorothy Thomas School Project

Another outreach effort extends to the students and families of Dorothy Thomas School, providing school supplies for the students and food baskets for selected families each winter holiday season.

Haley House Project

Military personnel returning from the Middle East with burn injuries, spinal cord injuries or brain injuries require extensive treatment at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. Haley House, a registered nonprofit organization, provides assistance for the veterans and their families. Helping Hands provides support with quilts used for burn victims that will allow the veteran to retain body heat without touching their bodies.
