When St. Mark's decided to start a Supper Club, the response was strong. There are several groups consisting of adults only, ranging in size from 10 to 12 people plus 8 alternates. There are an additional groups consisting of adults and children. The idea was to create a number of small groups that would meet at one another's home monthly on a rotating basis. The smaller size fosters greater opportunity to get to know one another than would a larger gathering. The host for each dinner is responsible for preparing the main course, and for calling each member and assigning them a dish to bring. Meals are BYOB. Each group decides before the end of each dinner who will host the next one and a date and time for the next dinner. Dinners may be held on a specific night each month such as "the third Saturday night of every month". If not enough members are able to attend a given night, the host checks with the list of alternates. Finally, after each group has had an opportunity to meet at each others' home, the groups' members are shuffled to further broaden the circle of friends.
