The Vestry is pleased to announce that The Rev. Robert Douglas has accepted the call to serve as St. Mark’s new Rector. We still have a few months to wait for him to draw his responsibilities at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bonita Springs to a close, to move, and then to take a well-earned vacation. But he will be rested, excited, and ready to join St. Mark’s on June 1.
Originally from Massachusetts, Fr. Douglas moved to Florida in 1997 for an executive position in a privately held company. He is married to his childhood sweetheart and has two adult children, both of whom live in the Tampa area.
The Rev. Douglas was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management in May 1994. He was then employed in the areas of manufacturing operations and strategic planning in Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch. It was while attending St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Lakewood Ranch that he began to feel called to the priesthood.
In 2012 he obeyed the Call and started seminary at Nashotah House in Wisconsin. In May 2016 he graduated Cum Laude with a Mastery of Divinity. Since then he has served as a Priest Associate at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bonita Springs.
St. Mark’s Vestry has been particularly impressed with Fr. Douglas’s desire to have an ever-deepening relationship with God and his willingness to walk in discipleship of Jesus as Lord and Savior. Fr. Douglas, who prefers to be called Fr. Bob, feels a deep sense of call especially to pastoral care. But he says he looks forward to enhancing stewardship, program development, outreach, expanding our membership and facilitating a vibrant healing ministry.
While everyone is very excited to meet Fr. Bob and his wife Elaine, unfortunately we must wait just a little longer. Fr. Strimer finishes his interim term with us May 1. In May we will be cared for by The Rev. Geoffrey Coupland, as supply priest.
